At Hi-London, we make it possible for children and teens to learn the English language in a fun, natural way. The English lessons are woven into what the children and teens do each day; so, they learn the English language without realising that they are in fact learning.
In addition, all of our teachers, assistants and workshop leaders are native English speakers. Whether they are English, Scottish, American, Australian or South African, they are chosen for their ability to motivate and inspire learning among children and teens.
In our English language courses, the teachers focus primarily on skills that are difficult for the students to acquire in their home countries, namely listening comprehension and speaking skills. For those who want to go that extra mile and work on their reading and writing skills, we also offer private English language lessons before or after the group classes.
We try and treat each child or teen as an individual. Maintaining a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 8 for all our classes enables the teachers and teaching assistants to spend focused time with each of the students. We collect information on each student before he or she starts a course and use this information to fine-tune the course delivery. For those children and teens who register for 2 or more weeks in our English language courses, we provide an assessment with suggestions for further English language study at home.
Our English courses for children, teens, and adult family members run from morning into the evening, and they are offered in flexible, modular formats. Therefore, hours and lessons can be added as desired.
Outlined below are the English language courses that we offer throughout the year:
- Children 5-11: The children make puppets, float hot-air balloons and put on performances during themed weeks like "The London Jungle"and "Scientific London". Excursions to venues relevant to the theme for the week are integral to these English courses.
- Younger Teens 12-15: The younger teens learn English in a cultural and/or historical context. Through these excursion-based English language courses, they get to see and understand London through the eyes of the Londoners who are their English language teachers.
- Older Teens 16+/Accompanying Adults: Older teen and adult family members can take part in their own excursion-based classes, accompany their children on their excursions and/or take private or semi-private lessons at our school. We can also organise customised programmes to fit the needs of each family member.
